For sale is this beautiful Virgin Mary medal, signed by famous Georges Contaux (french medal engraver), which has been estimated to be from circa 1950.
The charm is made in 18K solid yellow gold. Sacred Mary is wearing a veil. Her face expression is absolutely beautiful, and medal is full of engraved details.

Georges Contaux, was born on September 22, 1891, in the 14th arrondissement of Paris1.
Gifted for drawing and painting, Georges Contaux entered the Boulle school in Paris in the arts and crafts section, focusing mainly on sculpture and steel engraving.
He was incorporated in 1911 into the 26th field artillery regiment based in Chartres. During the First World War, he was injured and two fingers of his left hand were amputated on April 27, 1915. He was assigned to the 2nd Aviation Group as sergeant major during the Italian campaign (1915-1918). It was during this period that he produced numerous small watercolors and red chalks.
From 1922 to 1923, he worked for the medalist Firmin Pierre Lasserre (Barraute, 1870 -1943) before settling in Vigneux-sur-Seine as an artisan sculptor and engraver of medals where he spent the rest of his life.
His artistic production, which extends from 1930 to 1980, includes 2,550 works divided into 30 official medals, 1,500 religious medals, 890 sports and monument medals and 130 portraits.
