For sale is this sacred Saint Benedictus medallion in bronze.
It’s a beautiful medallion, signed by famous Denis Fernand Py from early 1900. It has more than 100 years old.
The Saint Benedict medal is a Catholic medal dating from the Middle Ages, supposedly useful as an exorcism for the fight against demons. She is linked to Benedict of Nursia.
The obverse of the medal is engraved with the effigy of Saint Benedictus, surrounded by the legend “Sanctus Benedictus Monachorum Patriarcha”, meaning Saint Benedict, Patriarch of monks.
“PAX” means peace in latin.
On the reverse of the medal appears the so-called cross of Saint Benedict accompanied by several series of letters:
C S P B: “Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti”: Cross of the Holy Father Benedict.
C S S M L: “Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux”: May the holy cross be my light.
N D S M D: “Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux”: Let not the dragon be my guide.
V R S N S M V: “Vade Retro Satana, Numquam Suade Mihi Vana”: Withdraw, satan, never advise me of your vanities.
S M Q L I V B: “Sunt Mala Quae Libas, Ipse Venena Bibas”: The drinks you offer are evil, drink your poisons yourself.
